The
ADC allocates a day of the competition weekend to it's Preliminary
Round. This Round is utilized solely as a preliminary scoring, NOT as
an ELIMINATION round. Participants are separated by their age
divisions, and are evaluated in their ballet technique. Ballet classes
are taught by world renowned master teachers. Following technique
class, students are then required to learn both a classical and
contemporary variation to be determined by The ADC, and announced the
day of competition. Senior division will also be required to
learn/perform a classical coda. This is not to be confused with your
prepared, registered variations. This round is mandatory
for all solo competitors. Those students only competing as part of an
ensemble are encouraged to enter these classes, but is not mandatory.
Adjudication will be based on technique class, and the competitors'
ability to learn/perform choreography technically and stylistically
correct.
Soloist
competitors may solely enter the classical or the contemporary
category, for they are scored separately, and receive their own medals.
However, to be considered for The ADC Prize, competitors must enter
both categories. Remember: The ADC PRIZE is awarded based on
versatility excellence!
More
than one solo can be entered in each category, however, the variation
with the highest score will be the one in consideration for medal
placement, and other top score positions. (Ex: one participant will not
be awarded both the Gold & Silver Medals in the same category).
The competition is limited to the time available, so entries are accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Competitors may enter as a soloist, part of an ensemble, or both. (Ex:
a student may enter a classical variation, contemporary variation, pas
de deux, and be apart of an ensemble).
Male and Female participants will compete together unless there are more than 10 competing males in the age division.
Names, ages, and birthdates of all competitors must appear on the
official performers list form, or it will not be accepted. General Rules & Regulation Agreement must be read and agreed upon. Scoring: The scoring system comprises 3
areas: Preliminary Round, Technical (onstage), and Artistic
(onstage). Each area is
adjudicated on a 100 point scale. The combined score of the each Jury
Member is then averaged to reach the final score for
that performance. The preliminary score is
carried over
through each of the competitors' solos alike.
